Abstract
This study was done to compare the antero-posterior position of maxilla and mandible from the measurements of anatomical landmarks and that from the true vertical line. 46 male and 46 female subjects that have no experience of orthodontic treatment, no respiratory and optic disturbance were selected and cephalogram was taken at natural head position using mirror image Angle of SNA, SNB, angle of convexity, y-axis angle, anteroposterior distance and angulation of point A, B were estimated, comparative and analytic study was done about their correlation.
The following results were obtained :
1. The mean vertical distances from true vertical line to point A, point B were 2.01mm (-)3.10mm in male and 1.601nm, (-)3.44mm in female, respectively.
2. The mean angles formed by true vertical line and NA(nasion-point A) line, NB (nasion-point B) line were 1.98˚, (-)2.87˚ in male and 2.16, (-)3.33˚ in female, respectively.
3. There was no significant correlation between SNA and the distance from true vertical line to point A and between SNB and that to point B.
4. There was no significant correlation between SNA and the angle formed by true vertical line and NA(nasiou-point A) line and between SNB and that angle formed by NB(nasion-point B) line.
5. There was no significant correlation between position of the point A to true vertical line and angle of convexity and between that of point B and Y-axis angle.
6. The antero-posterior position of the maxilla and mandible established by anatomical landmarks was not correlated with that position by true vertical line and it cannot confide in accurate spatial position related with head posture.
